The current offering total is £1814 (including some as unyet claimed gift aid).

Our next offering on December 4th will go towards our Christmas hampers which help bless our elderly neighbours in Greenwich. Please prayerfully consider what you might be able to contribute to this worthwhile objective.

Stu Gibbs continues our series in 1 Samuel with the story of David and Goliath.

After the meeting you are all (appropriate for families!) welcome to join us for a drink at the Old Brewery pub in the same grounds of the Royal Naval College.

Beki Froud and some other Christian women in the Charlton/Blackheath area will be running a daytime Alpha course, starting 20th September 2011.

 The contrast of the last few days for me has been pretty stark.  On Saturday night I was praying with 6500 people, mainly teenagers at the Newday conference.  We were asking God for schools and neighbourhoods and cities and nations to be transformed by the love and power of God.  Since arriving home the news has been dominated by looting and rioting across London which has now spread to several parts of SE London.

This is not the place for me to try and analyse the roots of the violence.  But there are a few things we can do as an appropriate response…

 1. Pray.  Pray for the authorities who are trying to respond to the violence and for specific communities that are affected.  Pray for individuals that are struggling with fear and others that are obviously struggling with frustration and anger.  If it helps, get together with someone else from your area to walk and pray.

 2. Resolve to be someone who works to make a difference in the world.  That doesn’t mean we need to react immediately to these riots.  Instead we need to be proactive in serving and reaching communities as much as we possibly can.

 3. Commit to planting and building churches that bring light into darkness.  God’s answer to a broken world is still the same as it was 2000 years ago: the message of the gospel communicated and lived out by churches full of the Holy Spirit and love.  No one has, or ever will, come up with a solution that is more penetrating and permanent than Jesus building his church.

There may be other activity within the church over the Christmas period but there will definitely be a walk in Greenwich Park on Sunday 2nd January. Meet at 10.30am at the statue next to the observatory.

Our first meeting in January will be on Sunday 9th January, 4pm as usual.

During the course of our meeting there will be traditional carols, contemporary dance, diverse music, a mini Christmas craft market, mince pies and activities for children.

That day was also a catalyst for prayer within the church as many of us joined with other believers from around the world in praying for the nation of Zimbabwe, and in particular for the activity of the church in attempting to feed the people of Zim despite the country’s history of poverty and hardship.

Hope you had a good summer and are ready for all the exciting adventures of this new term.  It’s going to be a fun and busy term ahead with church/student socials/alpha/home-groups/student early morning prayer all going on (hopefully you’ll get some time to study too)!

It’s a community centre in East Greenwich in an old church building that is now attached to the new extension that is home to Christ Church (C of E church). The Forum is home to a host of charitable organisations including ‘Greenwich Asssociation of Disabled People’, ‘Greenwich Action for Voluntary Service’, ‘Volunteer Centre Greenwich’ and others such as a community theatre company. It also has its own cafe, serving home-cooked food, is very reasonable priced and has ‘This Morning’ (I can hear the advert break tune from my office!) on each morning on the tv.

The centre is located right on Trafalgar Rd which provides bus links to almost everywhere, is a short walk from Maze Hill station and is handily opposite a Greggs, Co-op and numerous take-aways.

I recommend that next time you are passing that you call in for a look around, grab a coffee and relax on the sun terrace on the 2nd floor!
